![]() I usually resolve that with the 50% rule of thumb: only if MORE than 50% of the square is unavailable, does it count as blocked. But which result in a lot of "so can I stand in this half-square or not?" quibbling. That said: quite often on square grid maps you see diagonal tunnels that are there just to break the monotony of everything being aligned. It's pleasant if the grid and the thing you're drawing on the grid are in agreement. I'd say the main deterrent from using hex grids is that they're not so ideal when using indoor maps, which tend to have a lot of 90° angles. (Pathfinder is one of those games where "squaring the circle" becomes a literal and not just a figurative problem.) The resulting PNG file is approximately 6 megabytes in size. ![]() Certain issues like how to map a circle to the grid result in somewhat nicer shapes than using a square grid. Geography Rivers Cities and Castles Hex Grid Label Map The fantasy world generator requires approximately 45 seconds to create and draw a world map, 4000 pixels wide and comprising over 19,000 hexes. I'm a little puzzled by the point of origin for your lines, why do they start at a vertex instead of on an edge of a hex?Īpart from that, there isn't really a big theoretical problem with using hexes, it's pretty straightforward how to calculate distances and all that.
